Trumpf GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered near Stuttgart, Germany, is a company that offers machine tools worldwide. Since 2015, Trumpf has been expanding its range of systems with a view to the future project for the digitalization of industrial production, Industry 4.0, with a focus on 3D printing systems that work with powder bed-based laser melting (LMF; also SLM: Selective Laser Melting) and generative laser cladding (LMD). Trumpf has been a manufacturer of additive manufacturing solutions for more than 20 years. In laser cladding (LMD), a metal coating is applied to a base structure. Furthermore, the LMD method is used for repairs or to bridge gaps in connectors. The right powder can be selected from a wide range of different materials (steels and alloys) as required. The LMF or SLM process is a tool-free 3D printing process based on a metal powder bed. Here, the workpieces are worked out layer by layer using laser melting. Trumpf offers machines for industrial use for both processes – for smaller objects as well as medium-sized formats, also for automated laser welding.
